3D Printing, is it in your strategy?
So I just bought my first 3d printer and I love it!!! I haven’t stopped churning out great little plastic models, check out my LinkedIn page for some photos J Anyway, this got me thinking about how this technology is going to be used in modern day marketing!
Lets be honest it wasn’t so long ago that just the thought of 3d printing sounded like something out of a sci-fi movie, but the future is now and this technology is really starting to take off!
I read recently online that the industry is expected to be worth in the region of $16 billion over the next 4 years, that’s some serious growth!
So who is using 3d printing from a marketing perspective today? Firstly Coca-cola did a great job in Israel where they ran a competition and winners were able to create and print digital models of themselves! VW also ran a competition whereby people were asked to design a car, the winning car was then created using a 3d printer – awesome!
These brands show that 3D printing and marketing make a successful team. But is it a team that will stick around, or will 3D printing soon be an outdated advertising gimmick?
It’s hard to say. Although only a few brands have gotten on board, others may follow as 3D printing becomes more mainstream (and affordable). I for one cant wait to see what other great ideas brands come up with using thi
